  • Laboratory Support - Part Time- Kemin Industries, Inc.

    Deadline:

    Join the Kemin team as a Laboratory Support technician!  In this flexible, part-time entry level position, you'll enjoy the opportunity to get hands on experience within a functional lab.   The primary function of this position is to provide daily support to the Kemin Research and Development Department through a variety of laboratory activities. This includes cleaning of glassware, performing equipment calibration checks, and regular equipment maintenance. Work in the lab will be done under direct supervision.  This is a part-time position.  Schedule M-F, 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM (with some flexibility)  Schedule end time may vary based on work load.

  • Immediate opening for a student intern. Student interns at BI will have flexible hours during the week, depending on their class load. (We do prefer a 10 hour per week commitment) Here in the Lab they will be able to make professional connections with Scientists in Animal Health (Virology, bacterial, Microbiology, PCR, and many more.)  You will assist with the day to day functions of the lab, stocking lab stations, removing trash, operation of autoclaves, and helping with stocking the scientist supply storeroom. This is a paid internship and will be facilitated through PRO Unlimited Staffing.

  • Undergraduate research assistant- Iowa State University Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology

    Gleason lab (Plant Pathology & Micro Department, ISU) is seeking 3 proactive students for summer fieldwork, starting May 2nd.

    Work will be M-F, 40 hours/week.

    Most of the work will be at the ISU Horticulture Farm (Gilbert, IA).

    The position involves 8 hours/day of outdoor work in groups. Main tasks involve, but are not limited to:

    -Setting up mesotunnel row covers and planting of 2 acres of organic muskmelon and acorn squash.

    -Lifting and pulling up heavy materials.

    -Research data taking and transcribing.

    -Insect pests and disease monitoring.

    -Harvest, weighing, and classification of fruit (acorn squash, muskmelon, apples).

    Paid internship to work at the Iowa Department of Natural Resources on Iowa Outdoors Magazine. Seeking writers for short stories, features and department assignments. Focus on conservation, outdoor recreation, wildlife and natural area management and outdoor travel. Duties include writing, taking photos as needed and interviewing sources. $15/hr.  

  • Agronomy and Farm Management Summer Intern- Gannon Real Estate & Consulting

    Deadline:

    Gannon RE & Consulting is a full service farm real estate company that does farm management, farm real estate and appraisals. We are looking for assistance primarily in the farm management area with an emphasis on agronomic data and coordination as we streamline our farm management records and procedure. Other duties may involve some real estate sales and appraisal assistance also.

    The ideal candidate would have a strong agronomy emphasis in soils, soil tests, GIS, data coordination working excel and other platforms with a knowledge of Iowa.

    The position could extend longer and part-time throughout the year for the right candidate.

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician/Intern- City of Dubuque

    Deadline:

    Assist GIS Coordinator/Analyst in building, maintaining, modifying and using geographic information systems (GIS) databases; performing some custom application development and providing user support; creating and editing desktop GIS data; transcribing information from hard copy documentation into GIS, creating maps for other departments; and collecting field data using ArcGIS Online and iPads.

  • Field Research Assistant - Sorghum Breeding- Iowa State University Department of Agronomy

    Deadline:

    Data collection and field assistance for research projects related to sorghum breeding and genetics. The position involves both indoor and outdoor activities, taking measurements, recording data, controlling weeds, and making many pollinations all while following specific guidelines. The applicant will work as part of a team. This year will include a project where we will collect data 2 days per week to track biomass and height data throughout the year on a set of diverse lines. Opportunities for hours in the spring and fall are also available. Average week is 30-40 hours. Questions about sorghum, plant breeding, and genetics are encouraged.

    We are looking for Research Intern and in this position, you will support the research activities for seed development.  You will assist with the overall management of the research plots, greenhouse activities, and develop operational knowledge in the area of seed research. The position is located in Shakopee, MN.

    Essential job functions:

    ·         Prepare soil trays, mix soils, plant, transplant, label, organize, clean, and water greenhouse plants.

    ·         Collect plant tissue samples for DNA marker tests.

    ·         Thresh, process, clean, weigh, package and set up seed in the Seed Room.

    ·         Perform regulated GMO seed activities including but not limited to planting, assembling structures, maintaining plots, pollinating, selfing, rogueing and data collection, harvesting, processing.

    We are a research facility – not a commercial plant breeder. Our nursery is quite variable as it consists of many smaller individual experiments.

    We have our first peak of work in the second half of May, when we plant out ca. 60,000 corn seedlings with a transplanter and set up our irrigation system. June involves a lot of weeding, note taking, leaf sampling for DNA analysis, etc. …

    During July it’s pollination time! We work every day, including weekends – isolating ears, bagging tassels, self- and cross-pollinating corn plants in the nursery, detasseling, and taking notes in yield trials. Most of the work is normally completed by the second week of August.

    Hi Fidelity Genetics seeks Field Science Interns for the summer of 2022 to help run root phenotyping experiments. Applicants must have a love for field work and interest in technology. The person in this role will work across the range of crop science, soil science, and ag-engineering. Field activities include experimental design and implementation, field data collection, data management, and scientific research.

    Experiments will take place in multiple locations across Iowa including Iowa State University field sites. There may be additional travel opportunities to trials in other states.
