  • Borlaug - Thomson Internship, Cresco, Iowa- Summer, 2023

    Deadline:

    The Borlaug-Thomson Internship is one of the most prestigious awards offered to undergraduate students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

    This internship has been designed to support the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation (NBHF) and the historic Borlaug Farms in promoting the legacy of Nobel Prize Laureate Dr. Norman Borlaug.  The program is supported by generous benefactors from Cresco, Iowa: The Thomson family, and the Kramer family.

  • Mental Health Direct Support Professional- Mainstream Living

  • Rising Star Internship - ISU Extension and Outreach County Services

    Deadline:

    Immersed in Iowa communities from mid-May to early August, multi-disciplinary intern teams apply academic skills and knowledge to real-life situations based on community needs. Housing is provided and may be at a local community college or other place allowing teams to live together. Orientation in April is required.

    Teams collaborate with Iowa community non-profit organizations, local food systems, families, agencies, and/or community and economic development organizations. Students may work on communications, promotions, social media content, and more while gaining experience with working with Iowa State's branding and editorial standards.

  • STEM AmeriCorps - Blank Park Zoo

    Deadline:

    The Iowa after-school STEM AmeriCorps program works to develop, implement, and promote STEM curriculums and learning for after-school programs. Utilizing the Dimensions of Success program development tool, Iowa Afterschool STEM AmeriCorps members will develop high-quality lesson plans in STEM areas, as determined by the host site; collaborate with host site leaders and frontline staff to integrate lesson plans into afterschool programming, conduct outreach to promote BIPOC youth participation; and facilitate day-to-day STEM activities for youth to explore STEM learning.

    Blank Park Zoo facilitates afterschool programs at various Des Moines Public Elementary Schools. Schedule is negotiable but must include 2-6pm at least 2 days a week, Monday-Friday.

    Assist USDA Research Scientists and Technicians with data management and field aspects of watershed monitoring projects at the USDA National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment (NLAE) located on the Iowa State University campus: https://www.ars.usda.gov/midwest-area/ames/nlae

  • Intern - Forest Health (Summer 2023)- South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources

    Deadline:

    The Forest Health Intern will develop skills related to forest insect and disease monitoring, including forest pest surveying and pest identification, working alongside government and non-government organizations across the state of South Dakota. This position will also assist with GIS data collection, mapping, stewardship plan monitoring, community forest inventory, and educational outreach.

  • Intern - Forest Stewardship (Summer 2023)- South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources

    Deadline:

    The intern will complete monitoring requirements for the Forest Stewardship Program and assist service foresters with field and office work, such as boundary line location, providing assistance to landowners, data entry, bark beetle projects, windbreak condition assessments, GIS work, map preparation, community forest inventory, and general maintenance.

    Qualifications:

    Specific Forestry coursework, such as dendrology, forest insect and disease, and general forest management is preferred.

  • Intern - Urban Forestry (Summer 2023)- South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources

    Deadline:

    This intern will assist the Urban Forestry Team and municipalities with ongoing community forestry projects. This will include community tree inventories, forest health projects, grant project follow-up, data entry, GIS mapping, landowner assistance, Arbor Day contest graphics, and general maintenance of the program.

    Qualifications:

    Specific Forestry coursework such as tree identification, forest insect and disease identification, forest ecology, arboriculture, and general forest management is preferred.

    Applicants must have a valid driver's license.

    Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

  • Environmental Science Intern- TRC Companies

    TRC is seeking a highly motivated and diverse Environmental Science Interns for our Summer 2023 intern program. This is a paid full-time position. Anticipated duration will be from June through August 2023 (flexible). This position has the potential to transition into a Full-Time role upon graduation. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Project Managers and Team Leaders and partner with engineers, scientists, and technologists.

  • Field Science Intern- Hi Fidelity Technologies

    Deadline:

    Hi Fidelity Technologies seeks two Field Science Interns for the summer of 2023 to help run root phenotyping experiments. Applicants must have a love for field work and interest in technology. The person in this role will work across the range of crop science, soil science, and ag-engineering. Field activities include experimental design and implementation, use of root and soil monitoring equipment, field data collection, data management, and scientific research.

    Location

    Experiments will take place in multiple locations across the Midwest including Iowa State University field sites. There may be additional travel opportunities to trials in other states. Mileage for travel will be reimbursed by HFT.

  • Laboratory Intern, Kaukauna, Wisconsin- CentralStar Cooperative, Inc.

    Deadline:

    As a Laboratory Intern, you become part of a dynamic team that analyzes samples and reports component and diagnostic results from dairy and beef producers throughout the upper Midwest. Samples are received from Dairy Herd Information (DHI), producers and veterinarians, and provide a wealth of information about animal health, production and physiologic status. This internship provides an opportunity to experience a variety of sample-analysis platforms and sample-processing methodology. Whether using infrared spectroscopy, ELISA, PCR or other means, you’ll discover data is king, and that this laboratory is the source of a lot of valuable information for producers.

  • Water Plant Student Operator- City of Ames Iowa Description

    Deadline:

    The City of Ames is currently accepting applications for a Water Plant Student Operator. This position will typically work 16 hours every other week, primarily on weekends throughout the calendar year. After the training period, the Water Plant Student Operators work independently on their assigned shifts. 

    This position provides an excellent opportunity for practical experience in engineering, chemistry, and environmental science fields. Due to the amount of training provided to the Water Plant Student Operators, we request all applicants be committed to employment with the Water Plant for one school year.
