  • Conservation Education Internship- Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board- Mason City, IA

    Deadline:

    POSITION:  A seasonal conservation education internship at the Lime Creek Nature Center in Mason City, Iowa.

    DESCRIPTION:  Intern will assist Conservation Education Manager in carrying out environmental education programming for the Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board and Lime Creek Nature Center.  Major duties include providing programs and field trips for a variety of audiences; creating and improving displays and bulletin boards, and electronic kiosk in the Lime Creek Nature Center; and writing articles and press releases.  Other special projects may include resource management activities, and professional workshop opportunities. Interns will receive valuable practical experience and continuing education during employment.

  • Intern - Special Events/ Environmental Education- City of Des Moines

    Deadline:

    The City of Des Moines is seeking highly motivated, energetic Park & Recreation, Environmental Education, or Event Management students looking to complete an internship with the City's Park and Recreation Department. Des Moines is an ever changing and evolving community of over 217,000 people.  As the capital of Iowa, it is at the center of progress and leadership in the state.  Located in Central Iowa, Des Moines is easily accessible and within just a few hours of almost any other city in the state.  Des Moines Park and Recreation is a National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Gold Medal recipient with a wide range of programs and services that are sure to include something for all aspiring recreation professionals.

     

  • Undergraduate Summer Scholars and Post-baccalaureate Research Education Programs

    Summer Scholars  (application deadline February 28, 2023)

    The Summer Scholars program is a paid 10-week research intensive program for undergraduate students that includes working under the direct mentorship of one of our many research faculty members, as well as participation in research and career development seminars and workshops. The program is designed for students from populations underrepresented in the School of Medicine & Dentistry who are interested in a PhD degree in the biological, biomedical, or health sciences. Applicants should be approaching the summer after their sophomore or junior years of college.

  • 2023 NIDA Summer Research Internship Program- National Institute on Drug Abuse

    Deadline:

    The NIDA Summer Research Internship Program supports all students with a focus on increasing underrepresented populations in drug abuse research. Through this program, undergraduates age 18 and older are introduced to the field of substance use and addiction research by participating in research internships with NIDA's distinguished scientists at universities across the United States. Students work with leading scientists for eight weeks during the summer. The internship may include laboratory experiments, data collection, data analysis, formal courses, participation in lab meetings, patient interviews, manuscript preparation, and literature reviews. In addition, it is expected that each intern will deliver a formal presentation on their research project at the end of the internship.

  • NSF- REU Duquesne University – Pittsburgh, PA

    We seek applications from undergraduate students interested in a 10-week immersive research experience in the biological sciences. We offer a stipend of $5750 and free on-campus housing and meal plan. We begin reviewing applications on Feb. 19th, 2023.  Program highlights are listed below.

  • Iowa Crop Improvement Association 2023 Summer Internship

    Deadline:

    The intern’s primary role will be split between two projects, supporting the ICPT, as well as assisting ICIA staff with the certification process. This includes staking plots, plot maintenance, field data collection, inspecting fields, maintaining inspection records and computer data entry. Certification offers the opportunity to work with many field crops including corn, soybean, oats, native seed production and weed seed free mulch, whereas ICPT will offer exposure to many aspects of corn and soybean variety trials. Opportunity to operate UAVs throughout summer to support field imaging, if interested ICIA will assist with acquiring part 107 license.

  • Agriculture/Horticulture Intern- In Harmony Farm

    In Harmony Farm is a farm in central Iowa serving socially disadvantaged Iowans , building a vibrant and healthy ecosystem, and creating meaningful experiences for members of our community.

    An internship with In Harmony Farm works toward preparing students for a career in agriculture, conservation, and land management.  From day one, interns will attain on the job experience interacting with specialty crop farmers from all over the world, assisting farmers with data collection and analysis, working with board members, staff, and partners to manage, protect, and preserve land assets and achieve organizational goals.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Advise farmers on plant nutrition and soil science to optimize yield and quality of crop produced.

  • 2023 Scientist Mentoring & Diversity Programs for Biotechnology (SMDP Biotech) and Medical Technology (SMDP MedTech)

  • CONSERVATION AIDE- Sac County Parks

    Deadline:

    Seasonal Conservation Aide position under the supervision of the Director and other SCCB staff.  Assists with maintenance and development of county parks, wildlife areas, and trails.  Duties include maintenance on facilities and grounds, roads, trails, signs, fences, etc. such as mowing, trimming, painting, pruning, cleaning, light construction and general upkeep on facilities, equipment and grounds. Assist Naturalist with environmental education programming, events and public relations.

  • 2023 Water Resources Summer Internship Program- ISU Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering

    Position Description:

    Have an interest in the environment, conservation, and agriculture, particularly water and soil quality?  We are seeking undergraduate student interns for summer 2023 who are self-motivated, detail-oriented, strong communicators, enthusiastic, and have a sense of fun!

    Interns’ time will be split between outreach and research, all centered around environmental issues and challenges in Iowa.   Summer interns will have the opportunity to:

    Work with two award-winning Iowa State University education and outreach programs:

    Water Rocks!, focused on youth outreach, and

    Iowa Learning Farms, focused on adult/community outreach

    Develop strong oral communication skills as you help children and adults better understand environmental and agricultural issues

  • Seasonal Technician - Water Quality Bureau- Iowa Department of Natural Resources

    Deadline:

    The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is seeking up to seven seasonal technicians to join our Water Quality Monitoring Section this summer.   These positions are slated for roughly 40 hours per week, but field days may extend beyond 8 hours per day and work schedules may fluctuate throughout the season.   • Repperger Research Intern Program

    Deadline:

    This 10-week educational internship program posthumously honors Dr. Daniel W. Repperger, who mentored many young people during his 35-year research career with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), by providing research opportunities for students to participate in research projects at one of the Air Force facilities under the mentorship of an AFRL scientist. Each scientist has been selected to mentor, because of their technical knowledge, experience, and willingness to help science and engineering students enhance their learning through participation in an actual Air Force research project.

  • 2023 WFIRM Undergrad Summer Scholar in Regenerative Medicine- Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine

    Deadline:

    The ability to engineer functional tissues and organs in the laboratory requires the coordinated expertise of many disciplines including cell and molecular biology, chemistry, engineering, and physiology. The 2023 program will be held Wednesday May 31, 2023 through Friday, August 4, 2023. Students accepted will carry out research under the supervision of prominent regenerative medicine scientists, be provided a range of “hands-on” and “virtual” research and educational activities, receive instrumentation training, attend specialized workshops, seminars, professional development, networking and social events.

  • Indiana Wesleyan University REEU Fellows- interactions between insect pests and pollinators in urban gardens

    Deadline:

    We are recruiting for year two of our IWU REEU Fellows program studying interactions between insect pests and pollinators in urban gardens within central Indiana in collaboration with Purdue University and funded by the USDA NIFA Program. 

    IWU REEU Fellows will spent 8-weeks at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN mentored by me and two collaborators at Purdue University. Fellows will learn about sustainable agriculture, integrated pest and pollinator management, food production and community gardening.  They will conduct research related to pest and pollinators and participate in extension workshop opportunities within Indiana. The IWU REEU Fellows will receive a stipend, housing, meals and transportation during the 8-weeks.

  • Urinary Microbiome research internship- Loyola University

    Deadline:

    We have just opened our admissions for the summer 2023 LAUD (Loyola Adventures in Urobiome Data) program in urinary microbiome research at Loyola University Chicago. Program highlights -- open for current undergraduates or recent graduates. Pays $6000. Projects available for hybrid (online + in person [Chicago]) or remote only.
