  • Biological Science Aid-USDA ARS NLAE

    Deadline:

    Assist USDA Research scientists and technicians with soil microbiology and nutrient cycling research at the National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment (NLAE) located on the Iowa State University campus: https://www.ars.usda.gov/midwest-area/ames/nlae

    Work is performed in both laboratory and field settings year-round.

    Duties may include:

    -soil, plant and greenhouse gas sample and data collection from field experiments

    -assist in the implementation and sampling of lab and greenhouse experiments

    -maintaining field gas sampling equipment and other laboratory equipment

    -sample processing for microbiology nutrient analysis

    -quantification of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi infection in plant roots

    -culture and handling of bacterial isolates

  • Equine Research Intern - Land O'Lakes, Inc.

    Deadline:

    Purina Animal Nutrition Center in Gray Summit, MO is looking for an intern for the equine research unit. The equine research unit at the Purina Animal Nutrition Center conducts research focused on four main areas of physiology including exercise, growth and development, palatability and eating behavior, and digestive physiology and the microbiome. The unit houses approximately 75 horses ranging in age from newborn foals to senior horses.

    The primary focus of this position will be handling younger horses and working on basic groundwork and desensitization of a dozen or more horses. This role will require a minimum of 2 years’ experience in colt starting or young horse training. References will be required. No horses will be ridden during this internship.

  • YCC (Youth Conservation Corps) Leader- Montana Conservation Corps

    Deadline:

    The Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) is currently looking for Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Leaders!  We focus on the growth of our participants, transferable job skills, and making a positive impact on the climate and environment.   YCC Leaders guide Montana Youth on conservation based service projects. These crews work on day projects with a Forest Service district. You'll have the chance to positively impact the lives of students, local communities, and some of the most treasured wild lands in the West.  YCC crews are based in remote, rural communities around Montana, with crew sizes of 5-8 participants. The youth participants typically go home every evening.

     

  • Expedition Leader- Montana Conservation Corps

    Deadline:

    The Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) is currently looking for Expedition Crew Leaders!   We focus on the growth of our participants, transferable job skills, and making a positive impact on the climate and environment.  Expedition Leaders support Montana high school youth in the successful completion of natural resource and community service projects, provide on-site management of a youth crew, implement curriculum and actively facilitate crew dynamics to ensure a high level of crew community and safety.   Expedition Leaders will work with a co-leader to oversee 4-6 youth participants on two-week overnight service projects.  Youth participants are Montana residents ages 14-18 years old and come from a variety of backgrounds.

  • Research Field Tech (Seasonal)- Iowa Soybean Association

    Deadline:

    To assist the ISA Research Center for Farming Innovation with cropping system research.  The employee will be expected to collect water quality, soil, and plant samples; conduct crop scouting and imagery analysis; process and organize data; and assist with data analysis. The research will be used to help ISA improve the productivity and sustainability of crop production in Iowa. This role reports to the Sr. Research Program Manager.

  • Clean Water Corps Member- Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa

    Deadline:

    The AmeriCorps Clean Water Corpsmembers serve alongside a natural resource professional in a Minnesota Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) during the summer, learning hands-on skills in managing soil and water resources. Corpsmembers assist with service and groundwater monitoring programs, wetland and watercourse inventories and assessments; prepare documents for cost-share and easement programs; conduct field surveys and site inspections and prepare reports; and coordinate and conduct educational programs and activities. Corpsmembers may also communicate with local landowners to develop management plans, gather input on best practices and provide education materials on water resources.

  • Public Health Intern for Summer 2023- Mary Greeley Medical Center

    Deadline:

    Story County Public Health is seeking an intern to assist in meeting the goals of educating the Story County community on various health-related initiatives. This position will have high interaction with the public and be involved in important work regarding immunization and vaccination clinics as well as events. As an intern at Mary Greeley Medical Center, you will also have the opportunity to job shadow other departments of interest.

  • Youth Corps Crew Leader- Polk County Conservation

    Deadline:

     

    Spend your summer outside and inspire youth through environmental stewardship projects. Together with a fellow crew leader, you will supervise, mentor and inspire a crew of 10 teens. Gain experience in habitat restoration, trail maintenance, environmental education, and outdoor skill instruction.

    Learn how to manage projects and crew safety. Use your hands, and motivate a team to help public land. Network with Naturalists and Natural Resources staff to build connections for your future.

    Lakeside Lab offers a Writer-in-Residence program funded by the Friends of Lakeside Lab. Students interested in writing about ecology, natural history, environmental ethics or related topics can become immersed in the Lakeside Lab campus and culture to enhance their writing. Artists from all genres have taken inspiration from the beautiful habitats on Lakeside Lab’s campus.

  • Ada Hayden Heritage Park Summer Intern- City of Ames

    Deadline:

    The City of Ames is seeking applications for a summer intern for the Ada Hayden Heritage Park. Candidates interested in this position can expect to work May 15 - August 15, 2023 10-15 hours per week.

    Performs work in partnership with the Friends of Ada Hayden Heritage Park to promote Ada Hayden Heritage Park, which may include leading educational tours and programs; conducting research; conducting roving interpretation in the park, engaging park visitors in understanding and using the park’s resources; assisting the department in completing various tasks in the park; and developing a weekly report of tasks and accomplishments from the previous week.

  • ISU Weeds Research Assistant- Iowa State University Department of Agronomy

    Deadline:

    The Department of Agronomy is looking for a few full-time Research Assistants to help with various integrated weed management projects during the summer of 2023. This is a great opportunity to learn about the different methods researchers are experimenting to control noxious weeds commonly found in corn and soybean fields throughout Iowa.

  • Health Promotion Intern- City of Ames Iowa

    Deadline:

    The City of Ames is currently seeking applicants to fill an internship to join the Health Promotion

    Coordinator as a part of our Human Resource team for fall semester 2023, with potential to extend

    into spring semester 2024. This position would be reporting to work at Ames City Hall and

    considered an OFF CAMPUS position.

     

    This temporary assignment will definitely be from August 21, 2023 - December 15, 2023, with an

    option to extend into winter break and the 2024 Spring semester. Hours over ISU breaks are

    optional. Interested candidates must be willing to commit to working 10-19 hours per week, with

    flexibility in accommodating class schedule and finals week. Early hours would be required for

    assisting with health screenings and flu shot clinics.

    · Operate an ATV and a soil probe in fields to pull soil samples

    · Navigate with truck and trailer to specified fields.

    · Document field conditions, soil anomalies, boundary/field issues observed when testing the field.

    · Assist in preparing soil samples for shipping.

    · Responsible for transferring files to field equipment and back to server for records each day.

    · Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

    · Assist with summer educational seminars

    · Help elsewhere when needed.

    · Must have clean driving record and valid driver’s license

    · Reliable transportation to and from work.

    · Ability to safely operate an ATV over a wide range of terrains and circumstances.
